It’s only right to lead with the main event—some stunning hikes through Joshua Tree National Park.

Hidden Valley
About 15 minutes from AutoCamp is Hidden Valley,a short, easy loop full of winding paths and the area’s signature boulders.

Fortynine Palms Oasis Trail
Want more payoff? Fortynine Palms Oasis Trail is only open fall through spring, leads to a tucked-away palm grove, and offers a moderate climb on the way.

Cholla Cactus Garden 

We can’t recommend this place enough. The dense clusters of Teddy Bear cacti glow in the morning sun, making it feel like you’ve stumbled into a mini forest in the heart of the desert. Magical.

Pro tip: drive back later in the evening for unmatched Milky Way sightings.

Ryan Mountain

If you’re up for a longer hike, Ryan Mountain rewards the climb with sweeping views over the high desert.

Wall Street Mill

Sneak a peek at rusted mining equipment and abandoned autos, courtesy of the area’s gold-mining past.

Stargaze

Sky’s The Limit Observatory

Drive a few minutes from AutoCamp Joshua Tree to Sky’s The Limit Observatory, home to free telescopes and self-guided tours. Looking for something more hands-on? Attend one of their ticketed programs that walk and talk you through the night sky.

Get Creative

Start at this sprawling, open-air gallery of large-scale sculptures built from materials found around the desert.

Hoof & The Horn

If you left extra room for souvenirs, swing over to Yucca Valley for killer shopping at Hoof & The Horn, featuring a funky mix of jewelry, home goods, and apparel for men and women.

Acme 62 

Also in Yucca Valley, this spot is heaven for lovers of vintage clothing, textiles, and artsy decor.

JT Trading Post
Back in Twentynine Palms, don’t skip a community gathering spot that hosts everything from pop-ups and seasonal events to wellness experiences and creative workshops. Visit their website for more info on vendors and rotating outdoor marketplaces events this fall.

Eat and Drink

Food here is a little funky, a little classic, and always delicious.

Crossroads Café

For casual morning bites, you can’t beat the strong coffee, hearty breakfast, diner vibes at Crossroads Café.M

Coffee lovers will want to hit up this cute roastery for the perfect cup. Order “for here” and stay awhile—the regulars do.

Jelly Donut Joshua Tree. 

One last morning rec, and we saved the best for last. All you need to experience bliss is one (1)  apple fritter, trust us. Bonus: they’ve got solid Vietnamese eats if you’re feeling a savory bite instead.

La Copine
Set in Flamingo Heights, about 20 minutes from AutoCamp Joshua Tree, is a small, buzzy spot serving up Caribbean-inspired dishes with a California twist. Come hungry: specialties include jerk chicken, curried chickpeas, and small plates made for sharing.

Pappy & Harriets 

Kitschy, sure, but Pappy & Harriets  in Pioneertown is a perfect dinner spot for the novelty lover. This historic roadhouse serves BBQ classics, inventive cocktails, and live music most nights.

The Tiny Pony Tavern

If you’re craving a low-key dive bar to end the night, The Tiny Pony Tavern in Yucca Valley is cozy, no-frills, and full of local character. Local tip: pick up some merch on your way out.
