Fall Guide to Upstate New York

Experience autumn magic in the mountains

Autumn is our favorite time of year in the Catskills. With leaves changing color and an added crispness in the air, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore the mountains. Whether you’re traveling with friends, loved ones, little ones, or furry friends, there is something for everyone this season Upstate.

AutoCamp Pumpkin Patch

Explore our on-site pumpkin patch. Choose your pumpkin and decorate without venturing far from your Suite. After a day of exploring, grab a warm cup of hot cider from the Clubhouse and cozy up with a blanket to watch a movie out on the lawn!

Leaf Peeping

Autumn on the East Coast is truly spectacular. Every October, the landscape will transform into a multi-color work of art. Whether you check out the breathtaking display on a hike, a scenic drive, or even from your private deck right at AutoCamp, fall in the Catskills is not something to be missed. Below are our favorite spots near AutoCamp Catskills to catch some changing leaves:

  • One of the best ways to explore the Catskills is to hit the road. If you drive out of Woodstock in pretty much any direction, you’ll find yourself on winding roads surrounded by a canopy of colorful trees—but NYS Rte 28 is the official Catskills Scenic Byway.
  • For exploring on foot, the Ashokan Rail Trail offers views of the mountains and picturesque local reservoir, framed by colorful maple and birch trees. It’s located a short drive away from AutoCamp, along with other local hikes here. Choose your own adventure, going as far as you’d like.
  • Looking for something even more local? Go for a walk among the trees on the trails directly from AutoCamp Catskills.

Apple Picking

A charming drive across the Hudson River will bring you to Rose Hill Farm, located in Red Hook. The heritage U-Pick orchard offers apples and pumpkins in the fall, as well as a tasting room where you can try their wine and cider made on-site.

Drive just five minutes north to Mead Orchards to navigate through the corn maze, have a picnic, and enjoy delicious apple cider donuts. For more apple picking, check out a map of local apple orchards to plan your stops!

Pet Farm Animals

Schedule a visit with our friends at the Animal Sanctuary and hang out with some furry farm friends like goats, pigs, horses, cows and more!

Go Back in Time

Hop on a ride on the Catskill Mountain Railroad for one of their fall trips on an old-fashioned scenic train—there’s both a fall foliage and pumpkin patch option.

Wine or Cider Tasting

Explore the Hudson Valley one sip at a time. The area is known for its incredible cider and wine. Check our local Wine, Beer, and Cider guide below for some of our favorite spots!
