There are some locations that just feel inevitable to us, and New York’s lush Catskills region has always been one of them. That’s why we’re so excited to announce that AutoCamp Catskills is almost here. Located just about a two hour’s drive north of New York City, AutoCamp Catskills is situated among the lush forests, craggy mountains, blue swimming holes, sunny meadows, and ski slopes west of the Hudson River Valley. This newly revitalized region is also home to a thriving cultural scene that ranges from the small ceramics studios, galleries, restaurants, and shops of Woodstock and Saugerties to nearby art destinations like DIA: Beacon and the ski slopes of Hunter Mountain. Our luxury tents, cabins, accessible suites, and thoughtfully-designed Airstreams bring you close to nature, anchored by our cozy modern Hudson Valley barn-style Clubhouse, a hammock grove designed for napping and reading, and gathering spaces among the trees for you to reconnect with nature, friends, and yourself.
Part of the great Appalachian Mountains, the Catskills have long been a place of refuge and performance for artists and creatives. Immortalized by the painters of the Hudson River School in the mid-19th Century, by the 1950s the Catskills was known for summer resorts where comedians like Mel Brooks made their name. And then, of course, there’s Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, The Band, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and all the other famous bands who made history and marked a new era of America at Woodstock. Now the Catskills are undergoing another thrilling shift, welcoming a new wave of photographers, musicians, writers, florists, bakers, chefs, shopkeepers, and more who have decided to call this place home, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it. We’ve collaborated with New York-based makers to tailor our signature AutoCamp style to the Catskills, outfitting our cozy accommodations with Warp + Weft rugs and decor by local artists, along with provisions by Catskills farmers, brewers, and winemakers. Under the expert guidance of our architect and design partners Workshop/APD and Dirk Debeer, these local touches inhabit truly enchanting spaces and blend with some of our other curated pieces from across the world, like Vacilando Studios Quilts, HAY furniture and a custom sofa by Stephen Kenn.
We’ve also learned what locals already know—that there’s no bad time to visit the Catskills. Come in the hazy days of summer to play by the pond, hike the local trails, or dance for hours at one of our silent discos. Or bask in the brilliant oranges and reds of the changing leaves during an apple-picking jaunt, then bundle up to sip hot cider around the fire. Come winter, escape to the utter peace and quiet of snowy days, and hone your skills on nearby Hunter Mountain. When spring arrives, eat your fill of the newly arrived fresh produce and inhale the scent of fresh flowers as they bud.
This is a place as equally suited to solitude and long days spent reading as it is to wild celebrations held under the trees that last until the fireflies come out twinkling against the inky sky. A place where each new bend in the road might lead to your new favorite hiking trail, an idyllic hard cider mill, or a charming restaurant that’s pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
So welcome to the Catskills—we can’t wait to see you there.
