August 10th marks Joshua Tree’s 87th birthday! This famous national park has become incredibly popular over the years, and it is one of the only areas where its namesake trees grow. While we love to celebrate all the wonderful aspects of Joshua Tree year-round, including contributing to the ongoing local conservation efforts, this month we’re featuring some extra special happenings and festivities.
Fun fact: Joshua Tree was deemed a national monument within the National Park System in 1936, and it officially gained the title of national park in 1994.
Honoring the local flora and fauna + deep-rooted arts culture
Our Joshua Tree pool has new splashes of color and vibrancy! The work “Mojave Stacks” is from the talents of LA and Landers based artist and muralist Jonny Alexander who draws inspiration from the rock formations, desert flora like the Beavertail Cactus, and warm earth tones of the high desert.
Thanks to Jonny and our friends at June Shine, you can dip in our oasis after a day of adventuring in the National Park and enjoy scenes from the desert expanse. We are excited to not only pay homage to native species that surround our location, but to also celebrate the creative oasis that Joshua Tree has become for so many artists of various mediums.
A spectacular show: the Perseid Meteor Shower
It just so happens that now is also the time to catch one of the most spectacular sky events of the year. With high rates of meteor showers per hour and a clear view of the Milky Way, the Perseid Meteor Shower is one epic show – and Joshua Tree’s dark skies make for a prime viewing spot! The Perseid Meteor Shower will be visible until August 24th and it peaks August 12th. Don’t miss out!
