How to Make the Most of 72 Hrs in Cape Cod
There's no better time to explore New England
East Coast summer is in full swing, which means there’s no better time to soak up the classic New England vibes of the Cape’s peak season. To help you plan the perfect AutoCamp Cape Cod getaway, we’ve rounded up a three-day itinerary that’s the perfect balance of lounging on picturesque beaches, cooling off with a towering cone of locally made ice cream, and gathering around the fire after a seafood feast.
Read on for our insider guide to the ideal Cape Cod weekend.
Check in at The Clubhouse and settle into your luxury tent, Airstream, or suite. Kick off the weekend by enjoying super fresh Cape oysters at our weekly pop up raw bar by Sea State. Open until 7pm (or until the shellfish lasts!), they also offer piping hot buttery lobster rolls and oyster platters to enjoy by the campfire as the sun sets.
Build your own private crackling fire and stargaze with s’mores in hand (you can buy a s’mores kit at the General Store). Or, gather around the communal campfire to make some new friends as a live local band plays—they’re here every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday so you’ve got plenty of opportunities to tune in. Then turn in for a deeply restful sleep.
Sleep in a little and wake up to the soft ocean breezes and sounds of surrounding nature. Brew yourself a fresh cup of coffee and sit outside as the coast comes to life. Or, if you’re in the mood for an excursion into town, take a brief trip to Pie in the Sky for a latte and one of their famous bagel sandwiches.
Next up, ease into the morning with Saturday morning yoga, guided in the airy clubhouse by one of our favorite local instructors. Perfect for all skill levels, it’s a gentle way to get your blood flowing before exploring the rest of the Cape.
Now that you’re warmed up, grab one of our complimentary AutoCamp bikes and make your way down the extensive Shining Sea Bike Path to Wood Neck beach. Take a dip and read while soaking up the sun (and remember to bring water to stay hydrated!).
Continue on the bike path to the quaint town of Woods Hole for cocktail hour at local standby Quicks Hole Tavern—and don’t be surprised if you find yourself lured in by their extensive menu of twists on the classics like lobster deviled eggs, clam chowder with dill cream, and Korean bouillabaisse. Or, move on and explore more of the town with dinner at Landfall, a quintessential waterfront restaurant where you can sample every kind of seafood the Atlantic has to offer while watching the sailboats pass by on their way back to harbor. Don’t leave town without exploring the historic Nobska Lighthouse, a charmingly preserved relic of the area’s deep roots in fishing and whaling culture.
If you’re not ready to turn in yet, pick up a bottle of chilled wine and pause for a golden hour drink on Woods Neck Beach before making your way back to Autocamp. If you haven’t eaten dinner yet, fire up your BBQ and enjoy the smoky flavors of a fire-roasted meats and veggies.
Head into Falmouth for Sunday brunch at Anejo Mexican Bistro. Take a seat in their spacious and lush outdoor patio and sip a Bloody Mary while perusing their menu, which includes Mexican stuffed clams with habanero hot sauce, tuna poke tostadas, and lobster enchiladas.
Depending on how much time and energy you have left, you could either book an excursion to go whale watching off the Cape, or opt for a kayak tour – like RideAway Adventure’s – or paddleboard to explore the extensive inlets that wind their way through nature preserves across the region, some of which can only be explored by boat.
If sightseeing and shopping are more your speed, wander the streets of Falmouth and explore the quirky gift shops for Americana souvenirs for the road. Grab an ice cream cone at Smitty’s, a local favorite for scoops on crispy homemade waffle cones or sample local beer at Bad Martha’s Brewery, brewed with grape leaves using a time-tested recipe created by their founder decades ago. The taproom also offers a crowd-pleasing menu of pizzas, pretzels, and charcuterie to fortify you for the trip home.
